Huntington Study Group

HDSA serves as a major sponsor of the Huntington Study Group (HSG), an affiliation of over 50 clinical centers formed to plan and conduct drug trials aimed at treating HD. In November 1998, HDSA sponsored a joint session between the Coalition for the Cure and the Huntington Study Group. The objective of this joint conference was to strengthen the relationship between the two groups while fostering a cooperative, reciprocal, multi-pronged approach to developing strategies for the treatment of HD.

Through the support of grants from HDSA, the HSG has developed two at-risk research studies, PHAROS (Pilot Huntington At Risk Observational Study) and PREDICT-HD (Neurobiologic Predictors of Huntington s Disease Onset). PHAROS aims to define the natural history of HD during the critical time marking the transition from health to the signs and symptoms of illness. PREDICT-HD is a parallel study whose goal is to define the earliest neurobiologic markers of Huntington s Disease. The PHAROS study is currently enrolling at-risk research subjects who have no definite signs of the illness and who have never been tested for the HD gene. If you are interested in learning more about this study and a participating HSG site near you, please contact HSG at (800) 487-7671.
