Bike For the Cure – Coastin’ to Carolina, May 30 – June 24, 2010

Coastin’ to Carolina is an 1200 mile bicycle ride from Bar Harbor, ME to Raleigh, NC for the 25th Annual HDSA Convention (June 25-27, 2010). In 1967, Marjorie Guthrie, the widow of famed folksinger Woody Guthrie, founded the Committee to Combat Huntington’s Disease, which evolved into the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. As in the prior eleven rides, the purpose of the ride remains heightening public awareness of Huntington’s Disease and raising funds for family services and research towards a cure. New Data Point To Huntington’s Disease Hope (NPR)

A study being published Monday (2/8/10) offers hope for those with Huntington’s disease. The Archives of Neurology has a report about a drug aimed at the serious cognitive deficits that people with Huntington’s also suffer. (click here for the story)

Neurosearch Reports Good Results from the European Trial of ACR16

Neurosearch has reported positive results from the MermaiHD study, the European Phase III study with Huntexil® (pridopidine) in Huntington’s disease. The HD community knows this drug by its original designation of ACR-16. (click here for more)

Scientists uncover culprit in Huntington’s disease

June 2009, WASHINGTON-Scientists have solved a mystery surrounding a horrific illness: Why people with Huntington’s disease harbor a faulty protein throughout their bodies but it destroys only certain brain cells. The discovery may provide a long-awaited target for developing treatments for the incurable killer-and also may have ramifications for more common brain diseases like Alzheimer’s.
